About me
I am Emma, based in Maidenhead, Berkshire. After a career in TV production and then tackling motherhood, I decided to follow my passion and train to become a therapist.
I understand that it can take a great deal of courage to reach out to a counsellor for the first time. I have walked the path myself so know that at times, life can feel overwhelming. You may be feeling sad, anxious, confused, or simply not yourself. The counselling I offer is a safe space to reflect, explore and work through those barriers and challenges you are facing.
Whether you are seeking support with , grief, sexuality, anxiety, depression, work-related pressure, low self-esteem, relationships, the list is endless, counselling can evoke change.
Some of the benefits my clients have felt are;
Gaining a deeper understanding of self
Learning to ask what do I need and ask for those needs to be met
Developed coping mechanisms
Gained confidence to be congruent
Developed their voice, gained confidence and self-esteem
I work within a person-centred approach, which means I believe you are the expert on your own life. Rather than being prescriptive or solution focused I will sit alongside you creating the right environment for you to be curious, explore and heal.
This way of working rests on three core qualities that I bring to our relationship:
Empathy - I will do my best to understand your experience from your perspective, as if it were my own, without judgement.
Unconditional positive regard - I will offer you consistent warmth and acceptance, whoever you are and whatever you bring, without condition.
Congruence - I will be genuine and real with you, rather than hiding behind a professional mask.
Research and decades of practice suggest that these relational qualities, more than any particular technique, are what create the conditions for meaningful change.
